Designing People-centered and Inclusive Climate Actions: Insights from Behavioral Science

Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 9:30 AM until 12:30 PMMalay Peninsula Standard Time UTC +08:00

Research suggests that conventional tools (e.g., regulations, incentives, information) can only be effective to a certain degree in the face of environmental challenges. "People-centered" climate actions, designed with insights from behavioral science and through a lens of equity and inclusion, could help us better tackle the barriers to effective behavioral change while facilitating inclusivity and equity.

This masterclass will contain two parts: 1) Why is it that many people who say they value sustainability do not actually act pro-environmentally? Why do we say one thing but act another? Research in behavioral science provides us with critical insights in explaining the roles of our perception of time, our judgment about risk, our emotions and the barriers that affect the choices we make in a climate crisis. 2) Knowing that climate crisis does not impact everyone equally, what role do businesses play to promote inclusive and equitable climate actions? How might businesses create a new circular use of resources so that new business opportunities are unlocked while at the same time making a positive social impact?

We will be joined by a special guest. Andres Espinosa Montes, MBA Class of 2023 and the former Corporate Social Responsibility Director at Qualfon will be sharing with us a business example “Mission Cuatro Cienegas” in which a business takes on environmental and societal challenges while at the same time bringing itself new opportunities.
