As the world recovers from the global impact of Covid-19, as a nation how do we transition smoothly from a pandemic to an endemic state? What lessons that some of us have learnt as we navigate through the uncertainties while ensuring the well-being of our loved ones?

- Prof. Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Mahmood, Executive Director, Sunway Centre for Planetary Health
Dr. Mahmood is a medical professional with more than two decades experience managing crises in health, disasters and conflict settings. She is currently Professor and Executive Director of the newly established Sunway Centre for Planetary Health in Malaysia. She was formerly the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Malaysia on Public Health. She is also a member of the Government of Malaysia’s Economic Action Council and Climate Action Council.
Her previous appointments include the Under Secretary General for Partnerships at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Chief of the World Humanitarian Summit secretariat at the United Nations, and Chief of the Humanitarian Response Branch at UNFPA. She is the founder of MERCY Malaysia a southern based international humanitarian organization.
Dr. Mahmood has held many Board positions in NGOs and INGOs and is the recipient of numerous national and international awards for her work. In 2020, she was appointed a Senior Fellow of the Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Centre. She is currently on the board of the Employees Provident Fund of Malaysia and ALAM Foundation.
Dr Mahmood graduated as a Doctor of Medicine (MD) has a Masters in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from the same university and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists United Kingdom. She also completed executive education at the International Management and Development Centre, IMD Lausanne.

Zalina and Syahril will share their story and practical tips on how they manage their high profile careers and family of three children, with their first son entering Cambridge this year. During the pandemic, Zalina made a 2 point career pivot, changing industry and taking on a C-suite role with broader responsibilities. Well-known for their efficient management of both work and life, there’s much all of us can learn from this family.
- Dr Nik Muyassarah Nik Din, Psychiatrist Trainee, Hospital Selayang & (Dr Nik’s Spouse) Dr Afiq Rahmat, Commercial Advisor, Shell Malaysia
Dr Nik and Dr Afiq will share their journey as working parents having their first child through the pandemic. They had to juggle with Dr Afiq working from home, taking full time care of their now 2-year old daughter, whilst Dr Nik served as a frontliner during the pandemic and at the same time completed her membership with Royal College of Psychiatrist. On top of this mayhem, they had to face their daughter being Covid positive (when both of them were negative). Their struggles and resilience will have lessons for us all.
